DEFINITION OF A COMPULSIVE
GAMBLING COUNSELOR
 

A person whose function as a counselor is to provide direct Compulsive Gambling Counseling, or therapy for, persons afflicted with compulsive gambling or persons who have problems associated with compulsive gambling. The role of the American Board Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor is further defined as possessing an understanding of the requirements of the following tasks:

1.  Screening
2.  Intake
3.  Orientation
4.  Assessment
5.  Treatment planning
6.  Individual counseling
7.  Group counseling
8.  Family counseling
9.  Case management
10.Crisis intervention
11. Education and prevention
12. Referral
13. Consultation with other professionals
14. Reporting and record keeping
